The Boarding House is part of the wider academic structure, and the Boarding House team are kept abreast of each boy’s progress. We are proud to know our boys well and provide all the support needed for each boy to flourish.
The boys have the freedom of the campus. On days that they don’t have sport, they ride around on their bikes, play on the fields, or enjoy the quietness of the Media Centre where they can read or play a board game with their friends.
From the Head of Boarding to our Boarder Masters, Sisters and Interns, the boys are always front and centre of everything that we do.
Cordwalles offers a Ballito Bus Service – a great convenience for our parents who live along the North Coast and in the Durban area.

For new boys, there is often an adjustment period to boarding. We try to make this transition as seamless as possible by providing plenty of support.
After their official welcome with their parents, the boys have a closed weekend, culminating in a ‘Fun Day’ with waterslides, a braai and bonding with their Big Brothers and Sister and peer mentors.
We have a 10-day no-contact policy so that the boys can settle into boarding and make friends and get used to new routines. However, Big Brothers and Big Sisters will be available to chat with parents about their son’s progress.

The Boarding House enables pupils from near and far to fully enjoy the Cordwalles experience. The Anthony Brown Boarding House has six senior and five junior dorms. A new extension completed in 2018 provides beautiful personal spaces for the boys. Each boy has a bed, footlocker, side locker and an outside locker for their sports equipment.
Recreation facilities available include two TVs for viewing sport, a pool table, table tennis, table soccer, air hockey, the Media Centre, IT Lab, tennis courts, swimming pool, sports fields, our forest, the Environmental Classroom for camping and outdoor fun and conveniently, many friends to play with.
The boys enjoy a busy and balanced school day. A structured supervised and uninterrupted hour of prep/homework is set aside each day. The boarders receive a nutritious and filling breakfast, tea, lunch, afternoon snack, supper and a light snack before lights out.

Over the weekends, the boys are taken on outings, involved in activities on the school grounds and sometimes (as often requested) allowed to enjoy a quiet and relaxing weekend on campus. Grade 7s also occasionally have socials with girls from St John’s D.S.G. or The Wykeham Collegiate. All boarders are allowed out as often as they wish, except for the closed weekend on the first weekend of the year.

Boarder parents are welcome to visit their sons whenever they are passing through, provided that they do not take them out of class, away from a practice or sports match, or disrupt any other school activity and that they have followed the correct signing out procedure.

Boys are responsible for preparing their own laundry every night by filling in the laundry slips and putting their laundry in the laundry bags. Laundry is collected every day and returned as soon as possible.
