The one constant with technology is its evolution. We aim to keep abreast of current trends and implement them wisely to ensure that our teaching remains relevant to the 21st-century child, equipping each boy with the right attitude and skillsets to take on future challenges.
Each boy from Grade 1 to Grade 7 visits the Media Centre for a half-hour lesson once a week. During this time, they are involved in a variety of relevant, interesting activities; from reading and research to the discussion of local and international news topics.
Pupils are encouraged to become self-sufficient and independent in making full use of the library facilities. Above all, we wish to promote a love and culture of reading.
Problem-solving, logical and creative thinking, perseverance and understanding how the world operates prepare boys for their journey into high school and beyond. That’s why we offer Robotics and Coding as a subject in the Cordwalles Curriculum for boys in Grade 6 and 7.
Boys take part in weekly, hour-long classes for a semester. In class, boys work with virtual simulations to learn the basics, before moving onto physical boards and electronics using Arduino kits.
During the holidays, Robotics and Coding classes are available for boys to attend as part of our extra-curricular programme, facilitated either by the school or by external companies. We use multiple platforms that are accessible from anywhere to allow boys to explore further from wherever they are.
Robotics and Coding is taught by Mr Khan, who has over 25 years of experience in tertiary institutions as a Senior Technical Engineer and IT Manager. He is currently the HOD of IT.
We have two computer rooms available for teaching and research, and each classroom has access to desktop computers, Chromebooks, iPads and interactive boards.
We believe technology is here to:
The aim is to teach children how to use technology as a tool to accomplish a desired goal in any given subject. In all grades, we work in tandem with the teachers using their class themes to design our lessons or projects.
Our focus is not on how technology can be pervasive in the classroom, but rather how it can be an invisible part of learning and the development of creative and critical thinking processes that make our school an exciting environment, encouraging effective learning at all levels.
Boys from Grade 1 to 7 attend weekly IT lessons in the computer room. IT is taught by Mr Rogers, who has worked in the corporate world and other schools for over ten years. He is passionate about IT and blockchain technology.
The Information Technology Department aims to help students master specific skills and application software. While some of these are specific to IT, such as coding, robotics, or understanding networks or hardware and software, the other applications are meant to be used for various everyday tasks.
Meaningful lesson content and themes from the boys’ form class and specialist lessons are integrated with IT, helping them retain the skills and knowledge and applying them in context.
The boys are encouraged to create content, combine multiple projects and share these with their peers and teachers using any technologies available to each pupil. Project week sees these STEM-based skills in operation with much fun to be had while learning.
Problem-solving, logical and creative thinking, perseverance and understanding how the world operates prepare boys for their journey into high school and beyond.
